The government of Oman announced a 500 MW capacity plant to produce Green Hydrogen and Ammonia under HYPORT Coordination Company, a joint venture between OQ Alternative Energy and the DEME Concessions (Belgium). The green hydrogen will be produced using desalinated water via electrolysis technology. The electrolyser plant of 500 MW capacity shall utilise power of 1.3 MW capacity produced using renewable feedstock of solar and wind energy. In addition, an ammonia production facility is planned alongside the green hydrogen plant. The produced ammonia will then be stored at DUQM port for exporting it to the foreign markets.
Earlier in 2021, the HYPORT DUQM team confirmed having successfully commissioned four (4) meteorological masts to gauge wind conditions and measure solar radiation levels separately by using 2 solar stations.
